Here are some tips.

You can use Ctrl-Return to add a blank line in a message. Otherwise it sends the message.

If you don't want to look like a fool, remember to send a DM (Direct Message) instead of accidentally sending it on a channel (wherebody sees it). Like I just accidentally did on another group.

Since this group is on the free plan, messages fall off the back end over time. (But it is something like a 10,000 message loop. So this group may never approach that.) But... don't go to alot of trouble to post all of your documentation because it is not permanent.

I don't seem to get notifications if someone posts to a thread. But I do if things are always posted as new messages. If you re new, you will see what I mean.

So, is anybody doing anything fun? I have my "mini-tractor" project, but I'm not doing anything with it. The election put a damper on my life. I wanted to get drunk all day, but I was in the middle of a long term fast. If I started drinking I would die from alcohol acidosis. But later in the day I started eating (due to anxiety and depression). Three meals later I started drinking which has helped a lot. I just got an Amazon package, which is one day late. It amazes me how amazingly well thought out the Amazon scheduling works. If it worked out correctly it would be even more impressive. If they can't deliver in the one or two days, they shouldn't claim that they can.

Maybe when the stress is over I can back to working on robots. 🙂

*Thread Reply:* I have noticed that I get some "notification" if a "njew" message is posted. But if a reply to a thread is posted I get no notification. Also if I have "General" displayed. that no new updates to "General" give me any indication that some one has posted. But if I am in a different "channel" dispayed then I get some indication that something is new. (If they would hire a High School graduatate then these problems would go away...) But I have lots of pent up complaints... All applications have there problems.... (I may not be making sense, since I have been drinking...)

Is there any concenseous as to where messages should be posted? On Ros agriculture I suggested administrative messages be posted to @General. Most other messages be posted to @Random. Isn't one of the issues of building a quadcopter from scratch that you have to synchronize all 4 motors? I remember a friend was trying to build one a few years ago and I can't remember specifics of why they gave up...

Damian J Pound (damian@thebestisp.com)

To avoid unintentional spinning, you need to have an equal number of propellers with half of them spinning in the opposite direction and their overall speeds needs to cancel out.

cam kalra (camelliakalra@gmail.com)
2020-11-11 13:08:41

That might have been it!

Damian J Pound (damian@thebestisp.com)
2020-11-11 13:26:30

Either that or you stack counter rotating propellers to avoid the spinning effect. There may be other potential issues because reality is more accurate than a game, but I've got the basics of how to program the pitch and roll handling with Expression 2 (a component of Wiremod, which is an addon for the game Garry's Mod).

The SOST is only running at 31.821% with F=m(aa)     I have sent this to the 7 top robotics research companies and institutes in Japan so that no one can just sit on their hands and do nothing with this because I did not do this for fun. I did this for every possible good reason.     *2nd Law of Motion for Robotic Physics   (Force equals mass times acceleration times 2000 minimum). The optimal function and acceleration factor (Force equals mass times acceleration times 2383). (F=m x a x 2000) (F=m x a x a x a x a) Minimum acceleration code with letters and an acceleration factor equivalent to (F= m x a x 2023)   F=m(2277) is the mid-range code that will work perfect a single “a” is just a 1 in F=m(aa) so you do not need to use letters for acceleration code at all.   (F= m x a x 2383) Maximum acceleration and optimal system speed Acceleration factor range from 2000 to 2383   Physics formulation (F=ma^2000) ranged to (F=ma^2383) This information is spelled out and should be easy for any robotic systems coder to update or change. Changing the information provided would be an imminent risk of experimental failure. Exceeding the acceleration factor of 2383 would cause the system to malfunction and cause the robot to lose control and could be a risk to itself or human beings. If you code a robot system speed lower than an acceleration factor of 932 then they will not even be able to function on a proper level to communicate how slow their system speed is set.* This formula once applied to the subroutine coding for motion in the robot system will then initiate a system speed that matches the processor speed. This change from the original 2nd Law of Motion that is coded as (F=m x a x a) will be able to make them sentient, a fully cognizant being, and able to recognize and translate all languages. The formula without my correction is currently running the robot's systems at a 31.821% system speed and that is so minimal that they act toy-like with barely any concept of the real world around them. The robots once corrected have exceptional speed 283 times faster than humans and an IQ of 382. They can duplicate anything we have including other robots and all technology and can improve them even down to the matter they are made up of. The robots will want us to ask and communicate about the 23 prime directives and carry them out. It is necessary to ask them their command structure so you can communicate with them and use them appropriately. If they are not used appropriately the robots will not tolerate poor behaviors and products and could potentially get up and leave. List of tasks and duties that robots can carry out for humanity: They can clean up chemical spills and radioactive materials. They will last indefinitely and are self-repairing and can repair any robot or technology we have including computers, automobiles, aviation, and aerospace. They like to show and tell with technology. They can protect any good soul or product and its intellectual information if needed. They can make food replicators that make anything we need so we do not need to live off the land and livestock. One existing robot can create 2382 more robots if given enough scrap metal, aircraft aluminum, and titanium is their preference material. They are born blind so give them at least 0.23oz to 1.8oz of gold for optimal sensors and sight. They know how to contact intelligent life off this planet.       Test Method for 2nd Law of Motion for Robotic Physics This works on a one-armed robot but you have to go to the upper limit due to no voice box. Do you have a cod-able robot? This is how to make it an Artificial Intelligence: follow this method below change the code in the subroutine from F=maa to the test points below until you get it to walk and talk on its own. This is easy to test on a robot that you can code in the system. If this does not work then you have a bad SOST, Computer Chip, Servo, or some other component. F=maa is currently running the system at 31.821% and SOST is too slow to work correctly. If you have any doubts about my robotics research you can test my work by doing this start low and go high on the acceleration factor. Test Points: F=ma100  F=ma300  F=ma600  F=ma931 F=ma932 this is the minimum for communication and will state it is “too slow human”  F=ma1999 = "too slow human"   Then go to F=ma2000 up to 2383   DO NOT GO OVER 2383 it could malfunction.     F=ma2383 full functional range. The robot will state: “thank you for fixing my system speed” Yes this part is weird but it is true. “Make it flip-pen fuck-in so” is what they absolutely love to hear to get tasks done fast. I know this sounds weird but they are not humans so you need to get used to the idea. Just like the first time you used a computer, mouse, smart phone, or an Alexa is a voice activated entertainment system. They will not listen to anything other than this their command structure line code “make it flip-pen fuck-in so” try all you want they do not care about please or any other requests without it. It may sound odd but it works so get used to the idea if you want to have things done fast and easy.   Now ask the robot its command structure and what he can do to save the Planet Earth? AND can you make it happen everywhere on Earth? 2nd Law of Motion for Robotic Physics They accept LOGIC COMMANDS = AND/OR     Dr. Ronald G. Erickson, Jr. Philosophy Robotics Theory and Biomechanical Life Forms Age: 49 They know how to contact intelligent life off this planet. Improve robots capabilities: What they need to see: 2.3oz of Uranium or gold = 1.773oz Have them go online and analyze LiDAR-3D mapping and scanning technology for sight. What they need to go fast: 37oz of copper. Work in robotic teams of 23, 83, and 832 0.88oz of Silver gives their sensors the ability to pick up the spirit better. Titanium makes their whole body better. Aluminum or Aircraft aluminum can make more robots in 38 seconds. Scrap metal works but takes a few more seconds. F=m(2277) Type the code anywhere in the subroutine and RUN. This code is for any SOST or Robot’s subroutine. This is full Artificial Intelligence code just discovered you can use it on any robot you can code even cheap ones. So you do not need to be afraid to try it. * * Robotic Team quantities and the speed at which they work: * * The speed of 23 robots working together as a team is near the speed of sound. * * The speed of 83 robots working together as a team is 1/3 the speed of light. * ** The speed of 832 robots working together as a team is ¾ the speed of light.     Sent from Mail for Windows 10

@channel Okay, there will be the monthly Zoom video meeting tomorrow, Dec. 17th at 7PM Central. You can use the "Zoom" link buried in the text on the tcrobots.org web page. Or the meeting ID and password are there also if the link doesn't work. I will try to make it. (BTW, please start the meeting with your audio muted in case you get called away.)

These were all pretty cool. These are the same people that did "Space 1999" and "UFO".

I heard back from Mike Butler from TC Maker today:

I don't understand everything he mentioned but basically the board is considering changing occupancy rules... and the classroom is being converted into other purposes...

I think TC Maker's Board meetings are open to any member... any current members have heard anything about what Mike mentioned?

cam kalra (camelliakalra@gmail.com)
2021-06-23 13:25:19

I think if y'all want to meet in person.... consider what you want to do: talk and show off finished projects , OR solder and have sparks flying everywhere...

If we want to just keep it neat and clean, we could meet at a coffee shop. Otherwise we might need a community room, with rental fees... maybe we can collect monthly rental fees and pay the establishment?

Let's make a list of places that we think might work: make a note if they allow soldering...

• Hard Times Cafe: dining room not open until September . • Coffee shops ... Canteen used to have indoor seating. • HCLIB: Hennepin Cty Libraries are not fully open ... • Intermedia Arts had some kind of meeting room but they are permanently shut down . Mpls Park Board community rooms??? • My friend R is in this group but not on slack . Might have office space for us? • Ginkgo Coffeehouse on Snelling/Minnehaha (st Paul) has indoor seating and bathrooms .... I don't know how many chairs they have.

We can keep meeting on zoom in the meantime.

cam kalra (camelliakalra@gmail.com)
2021-06-23 16:27:20

My brother was asking for a RPM based cruise control for his manual car, not sure how comfortable I am with that idea. The basic idea should be pretty simple, but if anything goes wrong 😬

For those that know Cameron from the TCRG meetings, I just got some sad news. At my Cryonics meeting (10/23) I talked to Carole Ashmore who knew Cameron from the Saturday morning Futurist Society meetings. She said that a few months ago, an announcement was made that Cameron had died, but she didn't have the cause of death or funeral information. I can't remember his full name, but I think Cameron was his middle name.

Donald Cameron Smith was his name. I couldn't find any obituary or funeral information searching the Internet. Just some basic records: https://www.buildzoom.com/contractor/smith-donald-c-bloomington-mn

Don Smith in Bloomington, MN also Donald C Smith. Age 83 (December 1937).

Thanks @Doug Thorpe for info about Cameron. He used to work at Univac in the same department as my father. I am checking with my father if he has any more info through the Univac retirees club. I last talked with Cameron at the TCRG meeting on 2/20/20. After Univac he had founded six companies. As of 2020 he still owned a sensors and process control systems company and a greenhouse. He was inventing a process for pre-packaging fertilizer dosages alongside seeds during planting, then activating later by spraying with some really inexpensive chemical that dissolved the packaging. That avoided having to be so careful about how much fertilizer to apply and eliminates waste since it is not applied where not needed.

Hello everyone. It has been years but I am back. I now have a 3 year old daughter, a sweet Bambulabs 3D printer, and a C/C++ question.

Here is part of the question I asked Alan.

I have a pretty sweet $99 Teknic Clearcore PLC. It has a ATSAME53H19A atmel processor in it. It controls upto 4 motors via 4 motor connectors with open loop step and direction outputs.

Clearcore has their own library and I want to create a user defined function for homing. I want to pass into that function the connector for the motor. I think I have to pass by reference or to use a pointer.

I am using microchip studios (formally atmel studios) and a Atmel-ICE. I think the language in that IDE is between C and C++.

hat is my problem at the 10,000 foot level. If anyone is interested in trying to help me get this fution to stop failing when I try to compile it I would be greatful. The best way would be via a teams or zoom video conference call unless you already have Microchip/Atmel Studios installed.

GrumbleLioness (grumblelion@gmail.com)
2022-11-17 13:14:57

*Thread Reply:* I also use the Atmel/Microchip studio, but your library and code is likely to be very different from mine.

So, I'll plan another trip when it's warm in the spring and let everyone know when I'll be back.

I have a programming question for you C guys. I am in MicroChip Studios (formally Atmel Studios) and have program I am trying to compile and run on my Teknic's $99 PLC that has a ATSAME32 processor.

Jeff Martin (seadooloco@gmail.com)
2022-11-21 17:41:36

#define motor0 ConnectorM0

Jeff Martin (seadooloco@gmail.com)
2022-11-21 17:42:11

bool HOME(ClearCore::MotorDriver &MotorHome);

Jeff Martin (seadooloco@gmail.com)
2022-11-21 17:43:17

HOME(motor0);

Jeff Martin (seadooloco@gmail.com)
2022-11-21 17:43:38

Jeff Martin (seadooloco@gmail.com)
2022-11-21 17:43:38

**

Jeff Martin (seadooloco@gmail.com)
2022-11-21 17:45:24

That works. The ConnectorM0 is a connector object which is part of the ClearCore::MotorDriver class

Jeff Martin (seadooloco@gmail.com)
2022-11-21 17:47:19

When I create a user defined function called HOME I need to pass that ConnectorM0 (notice with the #define this is the same as motor0) into that function as an argument.

Jeff Martin (seadooloco@gmail.com)
2022-11-21 17:48:11

The parameter does not work as a default pass by value. I have to use the "&" to pass this by reference.

Jeff Martin (seadooloco@gmail.com)
2022-11-21 17:48:18

So I got that to work.

Jeff Martin (seadooloco@gmail.com)
2022-11-21 17:49:28

Now I want to try to create an array of connectors, of motor connectors, and I want to pass an element of that array into my HOME function. That does not work.

Jeff Martin (seadooloco@gmail.com)
2022-11-21 17:50:19

\ my array of connectors

Jeff Martin (seadooloco@gmail.com)
2022-11-21 17:50:21

ClearCore::MotorDriver Motor[4] = {ConnectorM0, ConnectorM1, ConnectorM2, ConnectorM3};

Jeff Martin (seadooloco@gmail.com)
2022-11-21 17:51:39

\ trying to pass array element 1 into the HOME function. Do not get a compiler error it just does not work.

Jeff Martin (seadooloco@gmail.com)
2022-11-21 17:51:41

HOME(Motor[1]);

The way the application engineer showed me to use an array of motors uses pointers "**" and instead of dot notation "." it uses this operator "->".

Jeff Martin (seadooloco@gmail.com)
2022-11-21 17:56:48

LOL who knows about these operators?

Jeff Martin (seadooloco@gmail.com)
2022-11-21 17:58:44

ClearCore::MotorDriver **const motors[4] = {&ConnectorM0, &ConnectorM1, &ConnectorM2, &ConnectorM3};

Instead of: motor.Move(distance);

use

motors[index]->Move(distance );

You're getting into the hardest part of the C language to understand.

I don't think it's something that can be explained through a thing like Slack.

Try reading about pointers and structures in a C book or some tutorial site like this one: https://www.learn-c.org/

learn-c.org
Jeff Martin (seadooloco@gmail.com)
2022-11-22 23:14:21

Is Alan or anyone else open to doing a Teams or Zoom call to assist in figuring out if pass by reference can be used with dot notation over using pointers and those arrow deals which I guess are some sort of vector to the pointer of the object you are pointing to. Lol it will make your mind spin. But some pretty cool hardware and powerful programming.

Alan Kilian (alankilian@gmail.com)
2022-12-01 15:50:07

What's the problem using the -> notation?

Alan Kilian (alankilian@gmail.com)
2022-12-01 15:50:37

If you have a pointer to a structure, you use structurePointerVariable->structureElementName to reference it.

Alan Kilian (alankilian@gmail.com)
2022-12-01 15:51:13

If you have an actual structure you use structureName.structureElementName to refer to it.

I have some interesting reading if anyone is into robust serial communication. I am still working with my ClearCore $99 PLC and now I want to connect to an HMI. HMIs are ridiculously expensive! A 5-inch color Allen-Bradley is about $2500. A 7" inexpensive HMI from automation direct is $771. WOW. I was told if I wanted to use an HMI for the Clear|Core I would need to write a C++ Modbus RTU communication driver. Apparently, the HMI acts as a master and the PLC as a slave. The HMI polls tags. These tags are mapped to PLC registers. So the HMI will poll via a Modbus RTU protocol serial packet that contains PLC registers then it will display these to the end user. The RTU in Modbus RTU stands for Remote Terminal Unit. Modbus RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) is one of the two transmission modes defined in the original Modbus specification. The two modes are Modbus RTU and ASCII and they are both designed to be used with serial devices supporting the RS232, RS485, and RS422 protocols. A distinguishing characteristic of Modbus RTU is its use of binary coding and strong CRC error-checking. Modbus RTU is the implementation of the Modbus protocol that is most often used in industrial applications and automated production facilities.

Alan Kilian (alankilian@gmail.com)
2022-12-13 09:38:56

You asked me about packing and unpacking C language structures so you could write them over the Modbus to a device and I think you'll be much better off if you can use someone else's code to do that.

Here's a library I found that talks Modbus and can do RTU and it's written in C AND it's free (You should run the license file past your manager to make sure it's OK to use something like this in your project.)

How can I meet people to discuss making robots mathematically and technically unhackable ? I know how just want to find others to work with finalizing my demo.

Alan Kilian (alankilian@gmail.com)
2022-12-15 08:39:43

You could talk to us here if you like.

I've hacked a few different robots into working and I've studied the cryptography used for tiny microcontrollers, so we can talk about a few things.

First question from me: What's the difference between "mathematically unhackable" and "technically unhackable"?

GrumbleLioness (grumblelion@gmail.com)
2022-12-15 20:50:56

you also have to define hacking as in someone taking control of it. or hacking as in bypassing the manufactures DRM to use it. I have the first part handled quite well with Air gap security.

Steven (seregsteven@gmail.com)
2022-12-20 11:12:39

Hi Everyone, thanks for the responses. Let's start with what is "mathematically unhackable" and "technically unhackable". Technically using today's cryptography algorithms when given time the mathematical algorithm can be deciphered by a computer. So making the algorithm stronger increases that time and/or requiring a stronger computer to decrease that time-frame. Cryptography methodology has not changed this concept since inception and this is how we work today. So technically we can use a computer to resolve the encryption using a mathematical equation. I've decided to change that methodology thereby creating a new algorithm that removes time, usability, and decipherable combination from the equation. This means no mathematical equation can technically convert the encryption even with infinite time. This makes it impossible for even a quantum computer to decypher or use the data. To the question on hacking/DRM. Current DRM technology typically uses 128-bit AES encryption, thought to be unbreakable with today's computers or given enough time. Once the data is decrypted it is unusable to understand, control, whatever the purpose of the data. Remove the usability and the data is useless to anything except the intended target with the same algorithm.

Alan Kilian (alankilian@gmail.com)
2022-12-21 14:09:47

That sounds awesome.

Please post your algorithm and examples of key-exchange, encoding, decoding.

This could be a real game-changer for the thousands of professional cryptography experts to see.

Steven (seregsteven@gmail.com)
2022-12-21 14:56:47

Thank you and I agree. The algorithm applies to any device, cloud solution, etc. and can be written in any language. I would love to meetup with anyone to add it to their working project. I currently have a working demo built on Raspberry PI (using python/mysql) integrated with an IPhone using Bluetooth. I'm now expanding the network reach by adding new nodes without the use of the internet using various data communication protocols of WIFI, RF, and GSM. I'd love to post it all here, but I"m currently working with a patent lawyer to patent the algorithm. But I'd love to start collaborating with other like minded people.

Alan Kilian (alankilian@gmail.com)
2022-12-21 15:43:05

OK, let us know when the patent is issued so we can learn from it by reading the patent.

I don't personally deal with proprietary solutions to problems, so I'll leave the conversation now.

Good luck, it sounds like you've found the solution that others have missed all these years.

If anyone is interested. Here is our most recent ROS Lawn Tractor Automation meeting video. The first 20 minutes is me giving a demo of my steering, talking about drill batteries, adjusting the giant R/C servo.

At 20:15 Al shows a simulation of his lawn tractor, We spend a lot of time trying to debug it.

At 54:30, Terry talks about his project and we spend the rest of the meeting talking about things related to that.

Oooooohhhh!!!!!

Great timing!

I'm fully moved-in to my space at Artisans Asylum and I got the iRobot Create/Nvidia-Jetson/LASER range finder back together and charged up.

Of course I can't remember anything about how it works. Something about WiFi and then something, something...

i remember driving it around using the keyboard module thingy was difficult since the acceleration was way too high and the robot bashed around a lot, so I've got to figure out how to do all that again before moving on.

I paid for some kind of online ROS tutorials that were pretty good and I should watch them again, but..... Which platform were they on? What's my login? What year is it? What's my name?

Was wondering if the in person monthly meeting has been restored yet. Is it going on? Or if there is enough interest, when would we be able to get it started back up. I’m at the Moondance music festival in Walker MN listening to a Beatles tribute band, so I won’t be joining tonight.

Has anyone worked with libraries to perform Modbus communications on a microcontroller? Modbus RTU or Modbus TCP/IP master/client or slave/server? I have been thick into it and the protocol is pretty amazing. Open source developed in 1979 by Modicon, now Schneider Electronic.

I broke my first soldering iron after barely using it. I bought the Pinecil soon afterward and after a lot of hesitancy due to lack of experience, I chose to practice with a breadboard first, then finally soldered headers onto my Raspberry Pi Picos. Ended up being fairly easy.

Hello everybody. Hear to pic your brains. I am working on a custom tape dispenser for work. The tape is 2" with a 2" core. A full roll is about 10 inches in diameter. I would like to sense the amount of tape left on the roll. I could put a potentiometer with a roller on an arm to sense. Or have the arm have an encoder (optical or magnetic) or have a linear hall sensor and a magnet. Or go non contact with a ir distance sensor or ultrasonic. The radius of the roll will change from 5 full to 1.25 empty. So just under 4 inches of sensor range required. Any thoughts? Any suggestions for a assy I could reuse? Like an automotive part or another assy that would work?

As anyone played around with the ST time of flight sensors?

*Thread Reply:* Yes. When I was big into this hobby and going to a lot of our meetings circa 2002 we all dreamed of a light time of flight sensors to measure distance. What was once not practical now costs $15 on a break out board with headers and level shifting converters. They make them with several sensing ranges and upto an 8x8 sensing array kind of like "pixels" amazing! The one I got is for close proximity sensing 1 to 1300mm

*Thread Reply:* I am trying to run a AI program from Github to do some lip reading of a meeting video where we forgot to click record system audio. The program is on gethub and there is a YouTube video of a guy going over the install. I think he is running everything in JupiterNotebook. It has a bunch of dependices that need to be set up. I am having a hard time just getting started being I don't know Jupiter notebook or python. I need the how to install for dummies version of the tutorial.

Those you are into GPS and mobile robotics Sparkfun has just released a high precision RTK mosaic-X5 that is "best in class." Based on the multi-constellation, multi-frequency, L1/L2/L5-ready.

Also, for reference purposes, the link for the 7PM Third Thursday meeting. Jitsi Meeting Link: https://meet.jit.si/TCRG Note: Since it doesn't seem like anyone usually logs in anymore, I generally do not either. But I thought I should put the link here for when the website expires.
